There are more than 2000 species of fleas, of which about 40 species live in Israel. Fleas are bloodsucking parasites that draw blood from birds, mammals and humans.

Fleas have long feet which allow them to leap to great heights. These pests are considered dangerous because they can move from person to person causing at times fatal diseases.

The flea has a long standby ability; after the larvae hatch, they become adult cocoons and wait for something that will cause them to suddenly emerge. When this happens it can appear as if there is a mass attack of fleas.

Fleas are a major distributor of many diseases, including bacteria causing typhus, which is an infectious disease that attacks humans. Fleas feed on blood, sometimes feeding on rats that carry diseases. The plague that we know as the “Black Death” was caused by fleas. In the Middle Ages at least 24 million people died during the plague. Therefore it is of the utmost importance to deal with this problem as soon as possible.
